Dr_Disco And I have been paddling around the lake I live on in order to learn the canted forward stroke.  I am gradually getting the hang of it.  And I have to say that even though I was very skeptical I found that the GP was very nice to paddle.  Here is an initial assessment of the pluses and minuses.

1.  It does not have as much acceleration as the conventional Lendal I have been using.

2.  Once I am up to speed and cruising the GP is as fast or faster than the Lendal.

3.  Edging to turn the kayak is incredibly easier and more secure with the GP.

4.  Rolling is sinfully easy.

5.  If you are teaching strokes to beginning students the forward stroke of the GP is too different to use for demonstration if you intend to prepare them for the centrist world of feathered conventional paddles.

I am afraid I am becoming a convert.  I went out and switched back and forth and ended up canceling the experiment because I preferred the GP.  I called up the paddle maker and bought a matching storm paddle.  I never thought this would happen.  There must be a 12 step program somewhere.  I have even been thinking I need a skin on frame boat!
